A short and endearing documentary film featuring tattooist Bruno Levy (@brunolevytattoo)

Better described as an Artist who tattoos, Levy enjoyed early success in the art world long before he found tattooing; his highly praised video manipulations under the pseudonym ‘SQUARESQUARE’ were exhibited in major institutions such as the Guggenheim, SFMOMA and the Chicago MCA.

It was in 2007 that he travelled to Nepal and picked up his first machine – apprenticing under Mohan Gurung at his Kathmandu studio. In the years since he stepped away from the medium to further explore other artistic mediums such as drawing, photography, music, videoand interactive performance. He directed several music videos, including one for The Walkmen and Modeselektor. Yet it was upon rediscovering the delight and simplicity of hand poked tattoos that he circled his way back in 2015- remaining ever-since a full-time tattoo artist and studio owner of Bandit Studio (@bandit_studio) in Brooklyn, NYC.

His delight in simplicity is central to Levy’s work and code of ethics- he describes his aim in ‘creating simple elegant tattoos that evoke a sense of nostalgia for a more romantic time’. Inspired by traditional shapes and motifs which he scales up and down, he works with his clients to produce freehand tattoos that serve as a culmination of time and energy. “Romantic Tattoo Artist” beautifully captures Bruno Levy’s gentle process, thoughtful experimentation and warm-hearted studio are all explored in this short film directed by Min Soo Park  (@miiing___).
